Agartala, Aug 14 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to safeguarding the nation's integrity, urging everyone to come together to prevent divisions within the country.
While speaking at the state-level ‘Observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’, the Chief Minister remarked that such discussions are crucial for enlightening citizens and students about the future direction of the nation, the paths we should take, and the leadership that will guide us in the upcoming times.
“While we often focus on ourselves, it is imperative for everyone to think about their state and country as well. The internet provides us with knowledge about the world, but it is uncertain how much the current generation comprehends our history. History cannot be erased. By studying it, we can learn from both our past and present. This is why Prime Minister Modi declared Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in 2021,” Saha stated.
He shared that during the partition and freedom struggle, countless lives were lost, women were subjected to violence, many children vanished, and numerous individuals were forced to flee their homes.
“This day serves as a reminder of those times and events.” The Chief Minister urged everyone to recognize the suffering endured by the nation, emphasizing the need to remember these events to prevent history from repeating itself. Partition Horrors Remembrance Day holds significant importance, observed annually on August 14. Conducting programs at various locations each year would enhance public awareness regarding the horrors of partition, he added.
“Even today, some individuals strive to incite unrest or riots to divide the populace. We must learn from partition to avoid heading towards division,” Saha remarked.
He recounted that riots began in 1881 across various regions, deepening the divide between Hindus and Muslims, a situation exacerbated by the British under their divide-and-rule strategy.
“These riots were politically motivated rather than religiously driven, aimed at quickly gaining political power. In Kashmir, Hindu Pandits faced numerous challenges due to terrorism. Thanks to the principles of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Hindu Bengalis found their place,” the Chief Minister highlighted.
He noted that many individuals from East and West Pakistan relocated here, leaving behind their possessions, while Muslims migrated in the opposite direction. This division caused significant hardships for many. PM Modi has been tirelessly working to uphold the integrity of the country, and we must remain united; otherwise, we will encounter issues.
Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and several other dignitaries attended the event.
