Mysuru, Jan 29 (NationPress) Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy stated on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given directives to the Uttar Pradesh government to implement all necessary security measures in light of the unfortunate stampede at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela.
“PM Modi has provided appropriate instructions concerning the incident. This event has brought sadness to many. Today is viewed as an auspicious day in our Hindu tradition, with believers thinking that taking a holy dip on this day is advantageous. This is the reason a large number of devotees gathered at the site. Mouni Amavasya is an important occasion when many devotees engage in the ritual bath,” the minister remarked while addressing the media during the Suttur Jatra Mahotsava in Mysuru.
He mentioned that the government had implemented all precautionary measures.
“Immediately after the news of the incident emerged, Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and instructed Yogi Adityanath to enforce extensive safety measures,” Kumaraswamy stated.
He further noted that all essential arrangements were in place at the Kumbh Mela, and the public appreciated these efforts.
“The unexpected influx of visitors created challenges. The Kumbh Mela committee had advised attendees to plan their visits wisely. Nevertheless, the incident occurred due to the overwhelming crowd,” he explained.
As many Kannadigas participated in the Kumbh Mela, Kumaraswamy encouraged anyone encountering difficulties to reach out to his ministry in Delhi.
“I have urged people to contact me if they face any issues. I reiterate this appeal through the media. I have also instructed my officials to offer necessary assistance,” he affirmed.
Kumaraswamy also strongly criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for his comments regarding the ritual bath at the Kumbh Mela. “This reflects the typical culture of the Congress. They show no respect for our traditions and beliefs,” Kumaraswamy expressed.
He stated that Congress only knows how to criticize. “The remarks made by the Congress National President are inappropriate. The Congress party lacks faith in our religious customs, which is why they speak in this manner,” he added.
He noted that Congress recently held an event in Belagavi, chanting ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Ambedkar, Jai Constitution.’
“They organized significant events in Mahatma Gandhi's name. However, their current comments contradict these actions. If Congress truly believed in Gandhi’s philosophy, such statements would not have been made,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his sorrow over the stampede incident, stating that he is deeply saddened by the tragic events at the Maha Kumbh Mela.
“My condolences to the bereaved families, and prayers for the departed souls. I wish a swift recovery to those injured,” said the Chief Minister.
