Kolkata, Nov 29 (NationPress) A storm has erupted within the police department of Bengal’s Birbhum district after an Assistant Sub-Inspector publicly labeled a senior officer a “criminal” regarding the recent assault on Trinamool Congress MP Shatabdi Roy’s vehicle.
Raj Kumar Das, the Assistant Sub-Inspector from Suri Police Station, expressed his outrage in an audio clip shared on his Facebook page on Friday, directly targeting Deputy Superintendent of Police (D&T) Kunal Mukherjee. This audio clip has quickly gained traction online.
IANS has not independently confirmed the clip's authenticity.
In the recording, the ASI stated, “The DSP is actually staying close to the SP by transferring us and destroying us. There is no criminal like the DSP. If you want proof, I will provide all the evidence.”
Das accused the DSP of misleading the Birbhum Superintendent of Police, Amandeep.
He further asserted that DSP Kunal Mukherjee must face consequences for not ensuring the safety of Trinamool Congress MP Shatabdi Roy, who encountered protests from a segment of the public earlier this month.
“The DSP was on duty the day Shatabdi Roy encountered protests. It is entirely his fault. If anyone should be punished, it is the DSP and no one else,” Das declared in the audio.
Shatabdi Roy faced protests at a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) assistance camp, during which local Trinamool leader Balram Bagdi was attacked. Amidst the turmoil, a shoe hit the MP’s car. Das claims this incident occurred while DSP Mukherjee was present and holds him entirely accountable for the security lapse.
The ASI's unprecedented public outburst has left the hierarchy of Birbhum police in shock. While no official response has been issued yet, sources indicate that the ASI may receive a show-cause notice.
The BJP has capitalized on the situation, stating the allegations highlight internal issues within the ruling party.
BJP's Birbhum organizational district vice-president Deepak Das remarked, “The manner in which Shatabdi Roy's car was targeted with shoes is absolutely unacceptable. It stems from factional disputes within the Trinamool. Raj Kumar Das’s statements are not entirely unfounded. Police misconduct cannot be overlooked. While I can’t say whether it was a criminal act, the support of Kunal Mukherjee for the protesters is undeniable.”
