Protests Erupt in Karnataka Assembly Over Amit Shah's Comments on Ambedkar; BJP Launches Counter-Protest

Belagavi (Karnataka), December 19 (NationPress) - Members of the ruling Congress party organized a demonstration in the Legislative Assembly by displaying images of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on Thursday, criticizing the statements made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Babasaheb during the Lok Sabha session.
Led by Magadi MLA H.C. Balakrishna, the Congress representatives disrupted the House while Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao was addressing concerns about the distribution of substandard and counterfeit drugs.
The Assembly had planned to discuss the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case on the same day.
Balakrishna insisted on the need for a resolution to be passed in response to the alleged comments directed against Dr. Ambedkar.
The Congress MLAs displayed posters of Ambedkar and chanted slogans of "Ambedkar zindabad". They accused Amit Shah of disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar with his Lok Sabha remarks.
In contrast, BJP and JD(S) MLAs criticized the Congress members, asserting that they were misinterpreting Amit Shah's statements.
As the situation escalated in the House, Speaker U.T. Khader called for an adjournment.
While in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Congress MLAs continued their "Ambedkar Zindabad" chants. Subsequently, they placed the posters on their desks before exiting the chamber.
Meanwhile, Deputy CM and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar remarked near the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi on Thursday, "Who else can advocate for Ambedkar and the Constitution if not us? Ambedkar provided us the Constitution, and it is our responsibility to honor him. We all adhere to Basavanna's principle of 'Kayakave Kailasa (work is worship)."
"We must engage in further discussions regarding the disrespect shown towards the Constitution and Ambedkar," emphasized Shivakumar.
In response to the Congress party's poster campaign, the BJP also displayed posters with the message 'Congress insulted Ambedkar' in the House.
