Protests Erupt in Kolkata Over Bail Granted to Ghosh and Mondal

Kolkata, Dec 14 (NationPress) On Saturday, the city of Kolkata is gearing up for a significant resurgence of protests, as the medical community and the public are enraged by the decision to grant "default bail" to two individuals accused of tampering with evidence in connection with the rape and murder case involving a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital.
This bail was awarded due to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s failure to file the charge sheet against the two individuals within the mandated 90 days following their arrest.
On Friday, a special court in Kolkata approved the "default bail" for Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar, and Abhijit Mondal, the former SHO of Tala Police Station.
Both individuals face accusations of misleading the investigation and tampering with crucial evidence.
In response to this development, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF) has declared a day-long protest on Saturday, primarily targeting the CBI for its failure to act promptly.
At 2 P.M. on Saturday, the WBJDF plans to conduct a protest rally at the CBI’s special crime unit office located in the Central Government Office (CGO) complex, demanding that the central agency take moral responsibility for its shortcomings.
Additionally, two other organizations affiliated with the medical community, the Medical Service Centre and Nurse’s Unit, have also arranged parallel protest rallies on Saturday.
Simultaneously, ‘Abhaya Manch’, a coalition of citizens from various backgrounds, will hold a demonstration on Rani Rashmoni Road in central Kolkata that afternoon.
The WBJDF intends to send representatives to this demonstration. All associated medical organizations have extended an open invitation to the public to join these rallies in considerable numbers.
Meanwhile, WBJDF representatives have indicated that they may resume their previous “ceasework protests”, which they had paused a few months ago for the greater public good.
“There are many influential individuals connected to the R.G. Kar tragedy. Our concern is whether true justice can be realized in the presence of such influential figures,” commented a WBJDF representative.
