Chandigarh, Sep 7 (NationPress) In a significant advancement in the battle against organized crime, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has detained an accomplice of the overseas gangster Goldy Brar and seized five .32 caliber pistols along with 10 cartridges from him, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Sunday.
The individual arrested has been named as Baljinder Singh, known as Rainch, a resident of Mahi Nangal in Bathinda. He has a prior criminal record, including a case registered under the NDPS Act.
DGP Yadav stated that the accused played a role in aiding the distribution of illegal firearms to the Goldy Brar gang, jeopardizing peace and stability in the border state.
Initial investigations suggest that the firearms were sourced on the orders of Goldy Brar, via his main associate Malkit Singh, also known as Kitta Bhani, who is currently incarcerated in Kapurthala Jail.
The DGP indicated that further inquiries are ongoing to establish connections in this case and uncover the full extent of the network.
Detailing the operation, Additional Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban noted that police teams, led by DSP (Bathinda Range) Jaspal Singh, had received precise human and technical intelligence about the Goldy Brar gang plotting to carry out a high-profile crime in the state.
In a prompt response, AGTF Punjab teams captured the suspect, Baljinder Rainch, under a flyover bridge in Malout, located in the Muktsar Sahib district.
A case has been filed under Sections 25 and 25 (7) (8) of the Arms Act in Malout.
Last week, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police apprehended three individuals involved in a cross-border organized arms and hawala network.
DGP Yadav had mentioned that the gang was utilizing drones to smuggle heroin and weapons from Pakistan and had an active presence in the border regions of Punjab.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the arrested suspects, Harpreet Singh and Gurpal Singh, who previously traveled to Malaysia, are connected to cross-border smugglers.
