Punjab Police Arrests Five Alleged Gang Members from Bhagwanpuria and Batth Groups

Chandigarh, Dec 29 (NationPress) The Punjab Police has successfully averted potential target killings by capturing five members of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Amritpal Batth gangs. This operation has led to the recovery of a considerable stockpile of arms and ammunition, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Sunday.

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Gurmeet Singh, Harpal Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Sandeep Singh.

Authorities seized four firearms, including a sophisticated US-made 9MM Glock pistol, two .32 bore pistols, and one country-made pistol. Additionally, they confiscated 15 cartridges and three magazines, along with a Hyundai Creta vehicle, which was used in the commission of the crime and lacked a registration number.

During their interrogation, the suspects admitted that the seized firearms were provided by Bhagwanpuria via an associate, and they were plotting to carry out target killings under the direction of the gangster Batth.

The apprehended individuals are connected to numerous criminal cases, including attempted murder, illegal arms possession, and gang-related violence, as per the DGP.

Furthermore, DGP Yadav revealed that crucial information has surfaced regarding the shooter involved in a recent targeted homicide perpetrated by the gang in the Tarn Taran region. Ongoing investigations aim to trace their connections.

Senior Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana mentioned that following intelligence about suspects in a Hyundai Creta vehicle, a police team led by CIA staff in-charge Amandeep Singh established a checkpoint at Jandiala and successfully halted the vehicle, leading to the arrests of Gurmeet Singh, Lovepreet Singh, and Harpal Singh. After further interrogation, two additional gang members, Shamsher Singh and Sandeep Singh, were also apprehended.

The SSP commended the diligent efforts of the police teams guided by SP, Investigation, Ajayraj Singh and DSP, Investigation, Rajinder Minhas. 'This operation marks a significant achievement in our relentless pursuit to combat gang activity in the area,' he stated.
