Chandigarh, April 18 (NationPress) The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police, in collaboration with Tarn Taran authorities, successfully apprehended two significant associates of the terrorist Lakhbir Singh, also known as Landa Harike, and the gangster Satnam Singh, recognized as part of the Satta Naushehra gang, after a brief exchange of gunfire, stated the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Friday.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Mehakpreet Singh and Yuvraj Singh.
Law enforcement officials also seized two advanced firearms from them, including a 9 mm Glock and a .30 calibre PX30, along with several cartridges and spent bullet casings.
DGP Yadav noted that initial inquiries indicated that the duo was being instructed by foreign handlers to execute targeted killings within Punjab.
“With the detention of these two operatives, the Punjab Police have prevented potential targeted killings and other high-profile crimes in the region,” he remarked.
Promod Ban, the Additional Director General of Police for AGTF, asserted that the suspects were also implicated in the shooting incident at a sarpanch's residence in Tarn Taran.
Reports indicate that two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire outside the home of the sarpanch from Naushehra Pannuan village on the night of March 26.
Ban elaborated that AGTF teams, under the guidance of AIG Sandeep Goel, along with Tarn Taran Police teams supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana, were actively pursuing the culprits involved in the sarpanch's home shooting, and through human intelligence and intel-led inputs, tracked down both suspects in Naushehra Pannuan.
AIG Goel explained that acting promptly, the joint police teams followed the suspects' trail. “Upon interception, the suspects fired at the police in a bid to escape arrest, prompting law enforcement to return fire in self-defense,” he stated.
SSP Rana indicated that during the exchange of gunfire, both suspects were injured and subsequently transported to a local medical facility for treatment. Police teams recovered two advanced weapons from their possession, he added.
