Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Meet Families of Victims from Sambhal Violence in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, met with the families of the victims from the Sambhal violence on Tuesday evening at 10 Janpath in Delhi, the home of their mother, Sonia Gandhi, as reported by sources to IANS.

Sources indicate that Rahul and Priyanka engaged with the families, seeking various details regarding the incidents that transpired in Sambhal. The victims' family members recounted the events that unfolded during that time.

Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government had prohibited the Congress leaders from visiting the families of victims in Sambhal district. On December 4, while attempting to reach Sambhal, Rahul and Priyanka were halted at the Ghazipur border between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

At the border, Rahul Gandhi remarked, "It is my right to go to Sambhal as the Leader of the Opposition, but the police were preventing me."

He further stated, "I am willing to go alone, I am prepared to go with the police, but they did not accept that either. They claim that if we return in a few days, they will allow us to proceed. This is contrary to the rights of the LoP and violates the Constitution. Our intention is simply to visit Sambhal, understand what transpired there, and meet the people. My constitutional rights are being denied. This reflects the new India; this is an India that seeks to undermine the Constitution. This is an attempt to dismantle Ambedkar's Constitution. We will continue our struggle."

Sambhal has remained tense since November 19, following a court-ordered survey of a Mughal-era mosque, based on claims that a Harihar temple once existed at that location. Violence broke out on November 24, during the second day of the survey, as protesters clashed with security personnel near the Shahi Jama Masjid. Tragically, four individuals lost their lives in the violence, with numerous others sustaining injuries.
