Kanpur, April 30 (NationPress) The Opposition Leader in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visited the mourning family of Shubham Dwivedi, a Kanpur native who tragically lost his life in the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Upon his arrival at Shubham's home, Rahul was met with profound grief. Aishanya, Shubham's wife, was overwhelmed with emotion and began to weep as she saw him.

Touched by her sorrow, Rahul Gandhi offered her comfort with a heartfelt embrace. Sanjay Dwivedi, Shubham’s father, was also deeply affected and struggled to contain his tears.

During the visit, Aishanya implored Rahul to advocate for her husband's recognition as a martyr.

In response, Rahul committed to addressing the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to raise it in Parliament.

“I will do everything within my capabilities to ensure Shubham’s sacrifice receives the honor it deserves,” he reassured the family.

During their conversation, Aishanya recounted the harrowing details of how Shubham was shot by terrorists who questioned him about his religion before opening fire. Rahul listened attentively and condemned the viciousness of the act.

In a touching moment, Sanjay Dwivedi asked Rahul, “You have also experienced this grief. If your grandmother (Indira Gandhi) were here today, would such violence be occurring in our nation?”

Rahul replied, “Had my grandmother been alive, Pakistan would have been dealt with decisively as in 1971. Such assaults would not happen within India.”

Rahul also facilitated a call between the grieving family and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra using his phone, allowing her to extend her condolences directly.

Rahul Gandhi spent approximately 28 minutes at the Dwivedi residence before departing for Delhi from Kanpur’s Chakeri Airport.

After the visit, Rahul shared on X, “Today, I met with the family of Shubham Dwivedi, who was martyred in the cowardly terror attack in Pahalgam. The entire nation stands with the bereaved families during this tragic period. We must ensure strict and decisive action against the terrorists, and the families of victims deserve justice. The united opposition fully supports the government and has called for a special session of Parliament.”

Earlier that day, Rahul inaugurated an open-heart surgery operation theatre at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, dedicating it for public use. He also visited the Indo-Russian Rifle Private Limited facility, inaugurated a new ambulance service, and inspected the Indira Gandhi Institute before heading to Kanpur.
