Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 21 (NationPress) Rajeev Kumar, the former Director General of Police of West Bengal, has issued a legal notice to Sukanta Majumdar, the Union Minister of State for Education, for making disparaging remarks about him, as per sources from the state government on Saturday.
In the notice, Kumar demands the immediate removal of the defamatory video content across all platforms, including social media and other public domains, along with a public apology for the harm caused to his reputation.
The legal notice claims, "A defamatory reel/video has been uploaded and is circulating on social media, including Facebook and Instagram, where you are depicted making false, fabricated, and malicious statements against my client."
It further states, "You have made utterly false and scandalous defamatory implications, branding my client with slanderous expressions like 'Didi tera DG Deewana, haye Ram, ED ko dale dana,' intended to damage my client's name and integrity."
Rajeev Kumar stated that Sukanta Majumdar accused him of corruption, alleging his involvement in the coal scam and cattle smuggling.
"Your defamatory statements have caused my client severe humiliation, mental distress, and irreversible damage to his professional reputation. Your actions represent a deliberate attempt at character assassination, sensationalizing falsehoods for publicity's sake, causing irreparable harm to my client," the notice elaborated.
Demanding an apology, the letter specifies that Sukanta Majumdar, the Balurghat BJP MP, must issue an unconditional apology on all platforms where the defamatory content appeared, stating that the accusations were false and unverified within seven days of receiving the notice. Failure to comply may lead to civil and criminal actions against him.
In response to the letter, Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar remarked, "We all know the image of Rajeev Kumar. Many believe he is involved in file losses. The CBI attempted to arrest him at his home. Recent developments suggest he has become an ally in the 'file theft' case with the Chief Minister. We will legally contest this matter if needed, and we may also address it on social media soon."
Majumdar confirmed he has already replied to the former DGP's letter.
