Kolkata, Oct 7 (NationPress) In a display of frustration over the police's handling of the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, launched a direct attack on the state's Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar on Tuesday.
Following his visit to the injured BJP MP at a private hospital in Siliguri, located in north Bengal, Adhikari urged the IPS officer to prepare for a transfer to Delhi.
"The blood of our MP will be avenged significantly in the 2026 Bengal Assembly elections. All unresolved matters will be addressed. Bengal will face the consequences. Should the BJP ascend to power, we will implement changes within 24 hours. Both Jalpaiguri SP Sri Khandbahale Umesh Ganpat and DGP Rajiv Kumar should expect a call from Delhi soon," he stated to reporters outside the hospital.
Notably, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has already requested a report from the state government concerning this incident.
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, present in Siliguri, emphasized that the state must provide a report promptly, or face legal repercussions.
In the meantime, Adhikari mentioned that the BJP MP is set to have surgery on his facial injuries. "Khagen Murmu is likely to require surgical treatment for facial damage, including a fractured bone beneath his eye. His health condition, as he remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), is under constant evaluation," he remarked.
He further added, "It troubles me to see the injuries caused by Mamata Banerjee's goons in their futile attempt to stifle our efforts in serving the people. Nevertheless, their determination is unwavering, and I have assured them of our utmost support during their recovery."
BJP Maldaha Uttar MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were viciously attacked by miscreants while en route to assist those affected by landslides in North Bengal and distribute relief supplies.
This incident occurred in Nagrakata, within the Jalpaiguri district of north Bengal.
The BJP MP was swiftly transported to a primary health center for care and is currently receiving treatment at a facility in Siliguri.
The BJP filed a complaint against eight individuals at the Nagrakata Police Station in Jalpaiguri district on Monday night and staged a protest outside the station demanding action against those responsible. However, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
