Patna, Nov 9 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday condemned the Mahagathbandhan for selecting a corrupt leader as their Chief Ministerial candidate, asserting that only the NDA can provide a transparent administration to support Bihar's development trajectory.
Speaking at an election rally in Bihar, he stated, "Those who have spent time in prison on corruption charges and are still under investigation are competing against us by forming an alliance. Was there truly no other leader in their ranks who could lead?"
On the final day of campaigning for the second and last phase of the Bihar Assembly elections set for November 11, Rajnath Singh addressed various rallies, including those in Mohania, Ramgarh, and Goh.
He warned voters about the communal agenda posed by their opponents, saying, "The RJD and the Congress aim to succeed politically by dividing society along caste and religious lines."
In a subtle jab at Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, Rajnath Singh criticized the NDA's opponents for their alleged corruption and shamelessness in soliciting votes despite their tainted history.
The Defence Minister further stated that a leader ought to have the integrity to declare they will resign from politics the moment a corruption accusation is made against them.
"Corruption cannot be eradicated merely through speeches. To effectively combat corruption, systemic changes are necessary, and everyone has witnessed the advancements we have implemented. Now, funds are withdrawn from Delhi's bank and are directly deposited into your accounts," he emphasized, pointing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of direct benefit transfer (DBT) for welfare programs.
Responding to allegations from the grand old party, he mentioned, "The Congress leaders' claims of 'vote theft' are unfounded. The votes of Bihar's populace are secure; no theft has occurred. Rahul Gandhi is misleading the public with baseless claims."
He underscored the development achieved in Bihar under the NDA administration, stating, "Today, the citizens of the state can proudly welcome visitors to Bihar under NDA's progress. However, during the RJD regime, the situation was so dire that it was said, 'Come to Bihar, we'll smash your forehead.'"
"Today, the transformation in Bihar is evident, and significant progress is visible. We must work towards making Bihar developed, successful, and prosperous. India will prosper only after Bihar becomes Viksit," he asserted.
"Moving away from RJD's 'jungle raj', Nitish Kumar is swiftly advancing Bihar on the path of development," he noted, adding that the NDA is more than just a coalition of parties; it is a union of good intentions.
"When the RJD was in power, and Lalu Ji served as Chief Minister, that was the age of the 'lantern' and 'jungle raj,' and our NDA government has successfully lifted Bihar from that era," he concluded.
