New Delhi/Imphal, Feb 23 (NationPress) On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh pledged full support to Manipur's Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, affirming that his ministry would assist in all of the state's initiatives.
Since Saturday, the Chief Minister has been in New Delhi and took the opportunity to meet separately with BJP National President Nitin Nabin and B L Santhosh, the party’s National General Secretary (Organisation).
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Imphal reported that Singh committed to offering assistance from the Defence Ministry for any projects that the Manipur government undertakes.
During their discussions, Khemchand Singh requested support in forming a new Territorial Army (TA) battalion for the state.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, who represents the Naga People’s Front (NPF), the Chief Minister met with Singh.
On Monday afternoon, Khemchand Singh also visited Nitin Nabin at BJP’s national headquarters in New Delhi.
The two leaders discussed strengthening the party’s presence at the state level. Nabin urged Khemchand Singh to expedite efforts for the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence.
Nabin assured that the party would provide all possible support in these efforts. On February 3, Khemchand Singh was elected as the new leader of Manipur’s BJP Legislature Party at the BJP’s headquarters in New Delhi.
He became the first BJP Chief Minister elected following Nabin's assumption of the party's national presidency. Khemchand Singh was joined by two Deputy Chief Ministers, Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen, both affiliated with the BJP.
Kipgen, a member of the Kuki community, hails from the tribal-dominated Kangpokpi district and is the first woman to serve as Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur. This marks Khemchand Singh's first visit to the national capital following his oath as the state’s new BJP Chief Minister on February 4.
On Sunday, Khemchand Singh met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah alongside his two Deputy Chief Ministers to address various issues, particularly the rehabilitation of IDPs, as confirmed by officials in Imphal.
According to the CMO representative, the Home Minister engaged with the three leaders from Manipur regarding steps taken by the new state government to dismantle barriers among communities and foster peace and harmony within the state.
