Rajouri, Oct 5 (NationPress) In an impressive move in the region of Jammu and Kashmir, the Rajouri administration hosted a health camp this past Sunday aimed at facilitating the registration of senior citizens under the Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana Yojana and issuing them health cards linked to the initiative.
The Ayushman Bharat Vaya Vandana Yojana, a unique combination of health insurance and pension for the elderly, has been a significant advantage for the senior demographic, enabling access to costly treatments and ensuring superior medical care without financial burden.
The extensive health camp, held at the Town Hall in Rajouri, witnessed officials distributing health security coverage to citizens who are aged 70 and above.
This card, introduced as part of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, provides Rs 10 lakh worth of free health insurance, effectively doubling the coverage offered by the previous Golden Card, which was Rs 5 lakh.
Hundreds of senior citizens participated in this camp, successfully registering for the scheme and receiving their Ayushman Bharat cards.
Many elderly attendees shared their happiness with IANS upon receiving the card, expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this thoughtful initiative, describing it as a significant gift for the elderly.
They acknowledged the government's ongoing commitment to supporting senior citizens, stating that the new card will provide substantial relief to underprivileged families by covering major health expenses.
Rajouri CMO Dr. M.L. Rana noted that the Vaya Vandana Card will enable senior citizens to obtain cashless treatment at empaneled hospitals throughout India, thus ensuring improved medical care without financial stress.
Last year, the Modi government broadened the Ayushman Bharat Yojana's coverage to include all senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Vaya Vandana Yojana.
As per official data, over 1.06 lakh claims had been settled by July 2025.
