New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Women from the border district of Rajouri in J&K have shown their appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Umeed Scheme, which has enabled them to establish a sustainable income through a Self-Help Group (SHG).
As part of the Mission Livelihood initiative, these women have embarked on a thriving business centered around the production of masalas and various spice products, effectively converting their skills into regular income streams.
The Umeed Scheme, integral to the J&K Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), has significantly transformed the lives of Rajouri's women.
By forming an SHG, they are now involved in the production and packaging of spices such as turmeric, chilli, and coriander for commercial purposes. This initiative has granted them financial autonomy, allowing them to earn thousands of rupees each month and make substantial contributions to their families' economic stability.
One participant in the project remarked, "We are part of the Umeed initiative and established a unit named 'Spicy,' where we process and package turmeric, chilli, coriander, and other spice powders. Our unit comprises 10 groups, each with 10 women. This has opened new avenues for us, enabling us to work from home and secure a consistent income."
Another participant expressed, "We are extremely thankful for the government's support; this scheme has significantly enhanced our lives."
They urged other women, particularly those residing in border regions, to seize the opportunities presented by the scheme to attain financial independence. Many participants are now earning lakhs annually, illustrating the profound influence of government-supported initiatives.
This program not only cultivates self-reliance but also encourages economic advancement and empowerment among rural women.
The Umeed scheme, which is part of JKRLM, is a centrally sponsored program designed to empower women to achieve self-sufficiency and independence. Its main goal is to assist the rural underprivileged, equipping them with the necessary tools and resources to enhance their livelihoods.
By promoting small savings among women, the scheme aids in the establishment of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), which can ultimately become eligible for bank loans at lower interest rates. This strategy not only boosts financial inclusion but also nurtures community development and resilience among rural women.
