Jammu, Nov 29 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, announced on Saturday that the victims of the Ramban district disaster will receive 189 three-room houses within a span of six months.
During his visit to Ramban district, L-G Sinha laid the foundation stone for projects dedicated to the rehabilitation of families impacted by floods and landslides.
In a press conference, the L-G stated that the district administration had executed relief and rescue operations for the affected families following government guidelines, with the cooperation of all involved parties.
He remarked, “We understand that government assistance alone is inadequate for home reconstruction. In collaboration with the Human Resources Development Society (HRDS) organization, 189 families in Ramban will be provided with three-room houses within the next six months,” he added.
Furthermore, these houses will include a 15-year insurance policy, health check-ups, and internet connectivity, ensuring families can live with security and dignity.
The L-G ordered the district administration to incorporate any overlooked affected or impoverished families from the initial listing.
He expressed appreciation to HRDS for its contribution to the rehabilitation efforts.
“Similar initiatives are also being implemented in other affected regions such as Rajouri and Udhampur,” the L-G commented, emphasizing that housing reconstruction for stricken families throughout Jammu and Kashmir is of utmost priority.
He mentioned that the recent efforts in Ramban are part of a larger strategy to guarantee that all families impacted by floods and landslides in the Union Territory receive secure and permanent housing.
“The administration is dedicated to executing the rehabilitation process effectively, ensuring that all beneficiaries can restore their lives with dignity,” the L-G stated.
On April 20, 2025, Ramban district faced severe rainfall and cloudbursts, leading to sudden flash floods, mudslides, and landslides that wrought extensive destruction across numerous villages.
The flooding claimed at least three lives, particularly in Baghana village due to a house collapse.
Over 45 houses were demolished, and approximately 250 structures, including homes, shops, and public amenities, suffered partial damage.
Numerous vehicles and businesses were swept away by the floodwaters, contributing to the escalating economic and infrastructural losses.
