Kolkata, Aug 6 (NationPress) The parents of the R.G. Kar rape and murder victim departed for New Delhi on Wednesday for a two-day visit to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Praveen Sood. They aim to voice their concerns regarding the investigation's progress regarding the tragic fate of their deceased daughter.
"Our trip to New Delhi involves discussions with the CBI Director and our legal representative in the Supreme Court, Karuna Nandi. We have a significant chance to meet Amit Shah, for whom we have long sought an appointment. Previously, we were unable to secure a meeting, but there’s hope for tomorrow. We will urge the CBI Director to promptly file a supplementary charge sheet against those involved in orchestrating the greater conspiracy leading to our daughter's tragic demise," stated the victim's father before their departure.
He confirmed their return to Kolkata by the morning of August 9 to join the Nabanna Abhijan (March to the State Secretariat), which commemorates the first anniversary of this horrific event.
The rally's organization is led by them, inviting representatives from all political parties, barring the ruling Trinamool Congress, to participate without party flags.
Prior to their trip, the victim's parents expressed their discontent with the Kolkata Police after receiving a call regarding the Nabanna Abhijan.
"Barricades are being erected to obstruct the march. Recently, we received a call from Park Street police station, questioning our intentions behind the banners. We’ve told them to act as they wish," the victim's father remarked.
The state government is making extensive arrangements to thwart the protesters.
The victim's body was discovered in a seminar hall on the hospital grounds on the morning of August 9.
Despite the sole convict, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, being sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court, the CBI has yet to finalize its investigation into the larger conspiracy surrounding the crime, even after a year.
While last year's protests primarily targeted the West Bengal state administration and the ruling Trinamool Congress, this year's movement aims to broaden its focus, addressing the perceived inadequacies of the CBI in conducting a thorough investigation.
