Patna, Jan 23 (NationPress) Former Bihar MLA Anant Singh narrowly escaped a violent incident on Wednesday involving a gunfight and clash between rival factions in Nauranga village of Bihar. The event, reportedly involving the notorious Sonu-Monu gang, has sparked intense criticism from opposition leaders regarding the declining law and order in the state.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari condemned the occurrence, asserting that law and order in Bihar has “collapsed completely” and that a criminal regime now reigns in the state.
Tiwari expressed his outrage at the scale of violence, noting that around “200 rounds of bullets” were exchanged, and questioned the state of governance under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the NDA government.
He further criticized the Chief Minister’s preoccupation with his Pragati Yatra, while lawlessness prevails throughout Bihar.
“What is going on in Bihar? Criminals are on a rampage, and those in power are more focused on preserving their government while the morale of the police declines,” he stated.
The conflict in Nauranga village escalated when Anant Singh and his associates intervened in a dispute caused by the Sonu-Monu gang, which had allegedly taken over a residence.
Sources indicate that tensions flared when gang members reportedly assaulted Singh and his entourage, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Following the shootout, police units from five different stations arrived to investigate the situation. The assault on Singh underscores the increasing concerns regarding the state's rising crime rate and the diminishing influence of law enforcement in Bihar.
Singh was released from jail on August 14, 2024, after the Patna High Court cleared him of charges related to the possession of an AK-47 assault rifle and a bulletproof vest. Previously, he had been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Patna MLA/MP special court, resulting in the loss of his membership in the Bihar Assembly.
