Sangam Vihar: Woman Faces Police Complaint for Voter Registration Using Forged Power Bill

New Delhi, Jan 2 (NationPress) In a recent incident involving an attempt to register as a voter with counterfeit documents, an Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) has initiated a police complaint against a woman who allegedly submitted a fraudulent electricity bill to enroll as a voter in the Sangam Vihar Assembly constituency.
Tanuj Bhanot, the ERO for Sangam Vihar, reported the registration of an FIR against the accused Jaya Shah, who purportedly used a forged electricity bill for online voter registration on December 16.
"This represents a grave offense, as the applicant has deliberately presented false information and documents to alter the electoral rolls. The Representation of the People Act, 1950, along with other pertinent laws, forbids such actions and imposes penalties on those found guilty," stated ERO Bhanot.
In his complaint to the SHO of Tigri, ERO Bhanot mentioned, "It is essential to report that an application was submitted online for voter registration through form-6 using deceitful methods. The applicant uploaded fabricated documents, which were altered, to support her application. It has been confirmed that the applicant attempted to mislead authorities by altering the electricity bill as proof of identity."
The ERO emphasized the need for authorities to take swift action to investigate this case and prevent similar fraudulent activities in the future.
"The police are urged to verify the documents based on the information provided by the applicant and to undertake necessary actions against her," read the complaint, which also included the original electricity bill that was forged by Shah, originally belonging to Ashiq Ali.
Bhanot requested the SHO of Tigri to file an FIR against the applicant and investigate her involvement in the crime.
Previously, the AAP and BJP exchanged accusations regarding attempts to manipulate the elections. The BJP claimed that the ruling party was responsible for creating bogus votes, while the AAP alleged that the BJP was erasing its voters from the electoral rolls.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva recently accused AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal of orchestrating election rigging, citing instances of property owners whose addresses were allegedly exploited to fabricate fake voter IDs and bogus votes.
Sachdeva provided information about homeowners whose addresses were misused to generate fraudulent minority community votes, mentioning that households with five members were suddenly recorded as having 60 or more Muslim voters.
