Mumbai, Feb 13 (NationPress) Following the announcement of Sanjay Ghadi as the new Deputy Mayor of Mumbai under the leadership of Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, he laid out his ambitious plans for the city on Friday. These plans include constructing concrete roads, ensuring pothole-free thoroughfares, tackling waterlogging during the monsoon, and guaranteeing clean drinking water for residents.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi emphasized the importance of fortifying Mumbai's infrastructure and enhancing civic facilities.

“The goal is to upgrade the roads of Mumbai to concrete. Our senior leader and Deputy Chief Minister had previously asserted that the city would be free of potholes. To realize this vision, he established a policy mandating the construction of concrete roads in Mumbai,” Ghadi stated.

He further mentioned that the administration would prioritize preventing rainwater accumulation throughout the city.

“We are also dedicated to ensuring that rainwater does not gather. Our aim is to provide the populace with clean drinking water,” he commented.

Regarding the issue of illegal constructions, Ghadhi affirmed that actions would be taken against all unlawful structures.

“Whether it’s a ‘mazaar’ or any other unauthorized building, we will collaborate with MahaYuti to instruct the administration to take necessary measures,” he noted.

In a critique of the Shiv Sena (UBT), the Deputy Mayor accused the party’s leaders of confusing the public with their contradictory positions.

“The leaders of Shiv Sena (UBT) seem lost regarding their stance. They raise issues concerning Marathis and Hindutva but then abandon them. The citizens of Mumbai and Maharashtra are observing their actions closely, noting the contrast between their pre-election promises and post-election conduct. This could harm their future prospects,” Ghadhi remarked.

On the topic of Mayor Ritu Tawde, Ghadhi expressed confidence in their collaboration.

“She has a very positive reputation. This is her second term, and we will work effectively together. Being from the ruling BJP, both at the state and national levels, she is expected to deliver commendable results. We are here to support her,” he added.

Touching on the subject of illegal migrants, Ghadhi stated that the removal of Bangladeshi infiltrators is part of MahaYuti's agenda.

“Mayor Ritu Tawde has articulated in her interview, and it is also the policy of MahaYuti, that Bangladeshi infiltrators in Mumbai must be expelled. If they are residing here, it is unlawful. Therefore, the BMC will take action accordingly. We will ensure that they do not continue to inhabit this city,” he explained.

Meetings are underway with the Mayor concerning this issue.

Addressing corruption allegations, Ghadhi asserted that strict repercussions should be enforced against any involved individuals, regardless of their political affiliations.

“Anyone found guilty of corruption must face the consequences, regardless of their party ties,” he concluded.

Regarding the issue of stray dogs, Ghadhi acknowledged it as a pressing concern for residents. “The problem of stray dogs is prevalent in Mumbai, causing difficulties for people both day and night. The BMC must adhere to the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court on this matter,” he stated.

On the Central Government's recent guidelines concerning Vande Mataram, the Deputy Mayor mentioned that laws should be upheld while maintaining harmony among communities.

“If the Central or State Government enacts a law applicable to citizens, it should be adhered to. However, this should not be done at the expense of any religion. Mutual respect among religions is crucial,” he emphasized.

Ghadhi also called for unity and cautioned against religious and caste divisions.

“No one should speak of their religion in a divisive manner or foster caste disparities. Mumbai is a city for all. We coexist here, with contributions from Gujarati brothers, Marathis, and North Indians alike—everyone has played a role in establishing Mumbai as the economic capital,” he asserted.

Discussing political dynamics in Muslim-majority areas, Ghadhi remarked, “Historically, Mumbai’s Muslim community supported the Congress. Over time, they distanced themselves and, during the Lok Sabha elections, aligned with Maha Vikas Aghadi. Subsequently, they shifted again and are now affiliated with AIMIM, resulting in the election of eight corporators from these areas.”
