Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Calls Out Gaurav Gogoi on Foreign Assets
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 31 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has taken a bold stand against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, raising questions about his purported foreign holdings and urging him to disclose his financial records.
In a press briefing, CM Sarma accused Gogoi of failing to reveal income associated with Pakistan and the United Kingdom, and insisted that he should make public any properties he owns abroad, especially in England.
Sarma pointed out that there have been discussions in Pakistani media regarding Gogoi, which he leveraged to question the Congress leader's honesty. “He must step up and reveal all his assets, including those located in other countries. What prevents him from disclosing information about alleged properties in Pakistan?” Sarma challenged, demanding that Gogoi present his bank account information to four senior journalists from Assam.
He further alleged that Gogoi is under scrutiny for owning properties in various nations, including the United States, and stated that the Congress leader has an obligation to clarify his financial circumstances to the public.
Directing his critique towards the Congress manifesto, Sarma asserted that if the party gains power, it would grant land rights to “Miya” settlers, a claim he utilized to challenge the opposition’s positions on land and identity.
He expressed strong confidence in the BJP-led coalition’s chances in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, predicting a landslide victory.
Sarma believes that the NDA could win more than 90 seats, potentially surpassing the 100-seat threshold in the 126-member Assembly. In contrast, he forecasted a disappointing outcome for Congress, estimating they could secure only about 15 to 16 seats.
Additionally, he projected that the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) might achieve between five and six seats, while regional parties could capture one or two seats.
CM Sarma maintained that the BJP’s governance record and development initiatives will resonate with voters.
