Malegaon (Maharashtra), Jan 24 (NationPress) Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday criticized former Union minister and NCP-SP president Sharad Pawar, asserting that merely engaging in marketing is insufficient to achieve leadership; substantial groundwork is essential.
"Pawar Saheb, you served as Agriculture Minister for a decade. During that tenure, you were in charge of the cooperative sector. What contributions did you make towards sugar factories and the cooperative movement in Maharashtra? What initiatives did you undertake for the farmers?" he questioned.
HM Shah made these remarks at a cooperative conference, where he highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government at the Centre to benefit the cooperative sector.
"Our administration has successfully reduced taxes by Rs 46,000 crore on cooperative sugar factories in Maharashtra. The government has extended loans to cooperative sugar mills, which are now profitable ventures thanks to the ethanol blending initiative. Additionally, there has been large-scale computerization of primary agricultural cooperative societies.
He emphasized that his intention was not to delve into politics but pointed out that Sharad Pawar should account for his actions during his decade-long ministership.
"Achieving leadership is not solely about marketing; it requires substantial efforts on the ground.
Lal Bahadur Shastri inspired the nation with the slogan of Jai Jawan Jai Kisan, while Narendra Modi has expanded it to include Jai Vigyan. If cooperatives leverage scientific methods, they will undoubtedly thrive," remarked the Minister of Co-operation.
He noted that due to the soil testing initiative launched by the Prime Minister Modi-led government, farmers have reaped benefits as they previously relied on traditional farming methods.
HM Shah also highlighted the inauguration of a modern soil testing laboratory in Malegaon and encouraged farmers to utilize its services.
The Union Minister urged the laboratory's promoter to focus on organic farming and assured Central support for these efforts.
HM Shah's remarks towards Sharad Pawar come shortly after he asserted that the BJP-led MahaYuti has restored the integrity of Maharashtra's politics by eliminating Pawar's politics of betrayal.
"Sharad Pawar's rebellion in 1978 taught the people of Maharashtra a lesson regarding his treacherous political maneuvers at that time," he stated.
In response, Sharad Pawar addressed HM Shah's criticisms by asserting that none of his predecessors faced deportation from their states or were subjected to externment.
"The dignity of the Home Minister's position must be upheld. Many legendary leaders who have held this office have since passed away," he remarked.
