Jaipur, Jan 28 (NationPress) A significant protest took place in Shahpura on Tuesday against the revocation of its district status.
Locals have been staging demonstrations for the past 28 days regarding the district status issue.
In alignment with the committee's directive, Shahpura observed a total shutdown on Tuesday, designating the day as "Black Day."
Over 60 organizations, including the Medical Store Union, endorsed the shutdown. The participation of the Jai Mewar Taxi Union resulted in the suspension of school transportation.
Priyanshu Yaduvanshi, a member of the Sangharsh Samiti, condemned the local MLA for failing to engage with demonstrators since the district status was revoked.
A large rally, spearheaded by the Shahpura Jila Sangharsh Samiti, took place at Mahalon ke Chowk on Tuesday. Thousands of residents from Shahpura and surrounding tehsils and villages actively participated, collectively demanding that Shahpura regain its district status.
A grand procession followed, moving from Mahalon ke Chowk to the subdivision office. During a public assembly at Mahalon ke Chowk, multiple committee leaders addressed the crowd, cautioning that if Shahpura is not reinstated as a district, they would boycott the forthcoming Panchayat and Municipal Council elections.
Protesters also shouted slogans at Trimurti Square, where a cutout of former MLA Lalaram Bairwa was removed on Monday. Demonstrators subsequently tore down the MLA's posters on the Mandal-Sanganer Mega Highway.
Thousands of protesters marched towards the subdivision office, where they submitted a memorandum to the Governor, urgently requesting the restoration of Shahpura district.
The demonstrators issued a 15-day ultimatum to the state government to declare Shahpura a district.
Ramprasad Jat stated that failure to meet the demand within the specified period would lead to a large sit-in protest on the Nagaur-Satur National Highway and Mandal-Sanganer Mega Highway 148D.
