Bhopal, April 19 (NationPress) Senior BJP figure and the Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Rajendra Shukla, on Saturday voiced strong criticism against the Congress party, accusing them of trying to exert pressure on investigative agencies regarding the National Herald case.
The minister claimed that when the top leadership of Congress encounters corruption allegations, they resort to making excuses, pointing fingers at the BJP, and questioning the integrity of central agencies.
While speaking to the media in Datia, he stated: "Individuals charged with corruption will not accept the consequences; instead, they blame the agencies and others. However, the law mandates action. The Congress is directing blame toward the BJP and the agencies as they lack a solid defense."
It is important to note that since the Enforcement Directorate (ED) submitted its initial charge sheet in the high-profile National Herald case targeting Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the party has been consistently protesting nationwide.
In Madhya Pradesh, where Congress serves as the principal opposition, various factions of the state Congress have organized protests against the ED and the BJP in Bhopal and surrounding areas.
In this context, the youth wing of Congress conducted a large protest in Bhopal on Friday.
Prominent Congress figures, including former Chief Ministers Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath, along with the party's state chief Jitu Patwari, have been vocally accusing the BJP's central leadership of misusing investigative agencies to stifle dissent.
The ED has lodged a prosecution complaint against Sonia, Rahul, and others in the National Herald matter, which is scheduled for argument in Rouse Avenue Court, one of the six district courts in the capital, on April 25.
The inquiry by the ED began in 2021, following a complaint from BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.
The complaint pointed to a criminal conspiracy involving several notable political figures, including Sonia, Rahul, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda, and Young Indian, for alleged participation in a money laundering case.
