Tehri (Uttarakhand), June 18 (NationPress) The solar pumping drinking water system in the Tehri Garhwal district is becoming an essential resource for villagers.
This innovative solar water pumping setup has been established in Guldi village, located in the Chamba development block, as part of the Jeevan Mission programme. It has emerged as the main water supply for approximately 55 families residing in the village.
Initiated under the ambitious 'Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana', this project aims to ensure that every household has access to clean drinking water. The scheme guarantees that all families receive clean water through domestic tap connections.
The Uttarakhand Drinking Water Corporation constructed a pumping station at a cost of Rs 44 lakh in Guldi village, under the supervision of Tehri Garhwal’s District Magistrate.
The drinking water tank has a reservoir capacity of 30 thousand kilolitres. This facility supplies drinking water to around 50 to 55 families. The District Magistrate noted that the pumping station is maintained and operated by the Gram Panchayat of Guldi.
The village head, Paramjit Singh Sajwan, mentioned that previously, drinking water was sourced from the Chamba pumping station, which took 2-3 days to reach the village.
A storage and water supply tank were constructed by the Drinking Water Corporation Chamba in the year 2022-23 as part of the Solar Pumping Scheme.
He expressed gratitude towards the central and state governments, as well as the district administration, emphasizing that this scheme has greatly benefitted the villagers by eliminating water shortages.
Executive Engineer K.N. Semwal explained that the solar pumping system was implemented due to the lack of a gravity water source. A tank was constructed above Guldi village to facilitate water delivery through pumping.
