Jammu, Jan 14 (NationPress) Six soldiers sustained injuries following a landmine explosion close to the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Rajouri district on Tuesday, according to officials.

The incident took place in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri.

"The explosion occurred around 10:45 a.m. when a soldier on patrol in the Nowshera sector accidentally triggered a landmine, injuring six soldiers. All the wounded army personnel have been transported to a hospital where their condition is reported as stable," an official stated.

Areas adjacent to the LoC on the Indian side are fortified by laying landmines to curb infiltration and terrorist activities.

"Some of the landmines planted near the LoC on our side may shift from their designated spots due to rain and other factors. Incidents like today are caused by these drift mines," a senior army officer explained.

The army and other security forces have been conducting extensive anti-terror operations aimed at eliminating terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.

These operations were initiated by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha following a series of heinous attacks by terrorists targeting the army, security forces, police, and civilians over the past four months. These assaults occurred after the peaceful and participative Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, observed by international diplomats, in J&K. Intelligence agencies suggest that the terrorism handlers across the LoC have become frustrated by these developments.

According to intelligence agencies, these handlers have instructed terrorists to execute attacks to instill fear and maintain unrest despite the prevailing peace in J&K.
