Successful First Trial Landing at Jewar's Noida International Airport

Greater Noida, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Noida International Airport in Greater Noida marked a significant milestone as its inaugural flight successfully landed on Monday amid the ongoing testing phase, receiving a ceremonial water cannon salute.

The trial flight, which originated from Delhi and landed at 1:30 p.m., was transporting officials from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and technical experts. This was a pivotal step in assessing the airport's operational readiness. The team onboard gathered extensive technical data throughout the take-off, flight, and landing stages to guarantee safety and efficiency.

Present at the event were Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, and numerous dignitaries including MLAs, MPs, and officials from the DGCA. Stringent security measures were implemented for the occasion.

During the trial, the aircraft undertook a 15-minute flight before touching down on the 3,900-metre runway at Jewar. After a brief 5-minute halt, the plane took off once again. The data collected will be forwarded to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for in-depth analysis.

Testing will persist until December 15.

The inaugural commercial flight from the airport is anticipated to depart in April 2025.

About 85 percent of the airport's construction is complete. Advanced systems such as CAT-1 and CAT-3 Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) have been installed and tested in October, which enhance aircraft visibility in foggy weather.

The airport's first phase covers 1,334 hectares and is approximately 80 percent finished. It is being developed in four phases across 6,500 hectares, requiring an estimated investment of Rs 29,650 crore, with Rs 10,056 crore allocated for the initial phase. To date, Rs 8,000 crore has already been expended.

The 3.9 km runway is fully operational, while the terminal building is nearing completion with roof finishing and equipment installation currently underway. A 38-metre-high Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower is fully operational.

Managed by Zurich International Airport AG, the Noida International Airport will operate under a 40-year management contract. Once operational in April, it is expected to accommodate 65 flights daily, including 62 domestic, 2 international, and a cargo flight, serving 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion, the airport will rank as the fourth largest in Asia.

The successful trial signifies a crucial achievement in India's aviation industry and emphasizes the potential of the Noida International Airport as an emerging hub for air travel and cargo logistics.
