New Delhi/Noida, March 28 (NationPress) The inaugural Phase-1 of the Noida International Airport, set to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this Saturday, promises to significantly enhance connectivity and facilitate travel within the Delhi-NCR region, while also fueling economic development in the state.

This monumental infrastructure initiative, with a projected investment of Rs 11,200 crore, is managed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, in collaboration with both the Central and state governments.

Located strategically along the Yamuna Expressway, this airport marks the second civil aviation facility in the National Capital Region (NCR) and stands out as one of India’s most critical greenfield infrastructure endeavors to date. The Noida airport ranks among the largest greenfield airport projects across the country.

In March 2026, the airport received its aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, permitting "all-weather operations.", confirming that essential systems for Instrument Landing System (ILS), navigation aids, runway lighting, and air traffic management are operational to support aircraft during low visibility conditions prevalent in the Delhi-NCR area.

The airport is designed to accommodate an initial annual capacity of 1.2 crore passengers, which is projected to expand to 7 crore passengers in the coming years.

The first phase includes a runway measuring 3,900 meters that can support wide-body aircraft. The single runway at Jewar is equipped with ILS at both ends, allowing aircraft to approach from either direction based on wind conditions.

This runway is complemented by an aeronautical ground lighting system, which includes both approach and runway lighting, working in conjunction with ILS to enable operations during low visibility and at night.

Additionally, the Noida International Airport will be the first in India to feature an in-house Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility. The cargo section is expected to manage over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually.

As envisioned, this airport will serve as a major international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR), anticipated to improve both domestic and international connectivity, thereby reinforcing the nation’s aviation infrastructure.

Strategically positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, the Noida International Airport is planned as a multi-modal transport hub, ensuring seamless integration with road, rail, metro, and regional transit systems, providing efficient connectivity for both passengers and cargo.
