The details of the arrests were shared by Palamu Superintendent of Police, Reeshma Ramesan, during a press briefing on Monday. Authorities seized two pistols, a magazine, 11 live cartridges, and 11 mobile devices from those arrested.

The detained individuals include Prince Kumar, from the NTPC police station area in Aurangabad, Amit Kumar Sharma from the Kotwali police station area in Gaya, Saurabh Singh from Manpur in Gaya district, Amit Kumar Chaudhary from Bhawanathpur, Garhwa, Jharkhand, Dharmendra Kumar Pandey from Manjhiyawan in Garhwa, and Sameer Ansari from the Sadar police station area in Palamu.

These gang members were actively engaged in extortion, targeting local entrepreneurs across Jharkhand. They demanded substantial ransoms under the name of the Sujit Sinha gang, instilling fear among the regional business community.

SP Ramesan revealed that the suspects admitted during questioning to their roles in the attack on the Bharatmala highway project in Aurangabad and other assaults on construction sites throughout Jharkhand.

One of the individuals detained, Dharmendra Kumar Pandey, has a criminal history, including involvement in the Palamu Central Jail shooting (2007-08) and the Chaibasa Jail shooting (2019).

Responding to specific intelligence, a specialized police unit executed a raid leading to the capture of these suspects. The operation was overseen by Town Police Station in-charge Devvrat Poddar, alongside officers such as Sub Inspectors Tanjilul Manan, Rishikesh Dubey, and Sangeeta Kumari Jha, among others.

These arrests represent a significant win for law enforcement, disrupting the activities of the Sujit Sinha gang and limiting their influence in the area. Authorities anticipate that these actions will provide essential relief to local communities and businesses.
