New Delhi, March 26 (NationPress) A collective of students and young artists gathered in the vibrant area of Jantar Mantar, where they demonstrated their support for the One Nation, One Election (ONOE) initiative.
Olympic champion Vijender Singh and actor Varun Sharma also expressed their backing for the ONOE campaign, highlighting its numerous advantages.
A few students utilized paintbrushes to create inspiring artworks in favor of this distinctive initiative, while others penned messages on a large canvas advocating for synchronized elections.
“It will reduce election expenses; we cannot sustain poll extravagance,” - stated some of the messages written by students.
The event was arranged by the Samvidhan Support Group, a local organization made up of lawyers, educators, and scholars who are advocating for the prompt implementation of ONOE.
Participants in the campaign included students hailing from various parts of the country.
Olympian Vijender Singh shared his thoughts on ONOE, saying, “It is crucial because the primary aim of the government should be to concentrate on national development, rather than engaging in frequent elections for MPs, MLAs, Panchayats, or Municipalities...”
TV star Varun Sharma joined the event, voicing his support for the call for early ONOE.
“This initiative is both fascinating and significant. Everyone should strive to understand it better - recognizing both its advantages and disadvantages...” he remarked.
Other participants also voiced their opinions on the significance of ONOE.
“A solid electoral framework is essential for a robust democracy. During a typical five-year term, elections occur approximately 6-7 times in various states. With each assembly election, the code of conduct is activated, which serves as a hindrance. If elections are conducted simultaneously nationwide, these frequent disruptions can be avoided...” explained one attendee.
Another participant noted, “Poets, writers, young engineers, young doctors, and young lawyers from every part of the nation have converged here today. Some are expressing their support through art, united for 'One Nation, One Election,' as it is vital for the future of our country...”
A girl attending the event in favor of the ONOE bill stated, “It is essential as it will fortify democracy. Elections often bring about disruptions, and with this system, we can manage them more effectively...”
