Srinagar, Feb 18 (NationPress) Security forces discovered two suspicious objects on Tuesday in the Shopian and Tral regions of Jammu and Kashmir, as reported by officials.
In Shopian, the suspicious item was identified in Kashwa Chitragam village, while in Tral, it was detected in Pinglish Nagwadi village.
Officials indicated that both areas have been cordoned off, and bomb disposal squads have been dispatched to safely neutralize the suspicious objects, which are suspected to be improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The security forces have been intensively conducting anti-terror operations in the union territory.
Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over two high-level security review meetings concerning J&K. He instructed the security forces to maintain zero infiltration and enforce a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha also led two security review sessions, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu. He mandated the security forces to disrupt the terror ecosystem by targeting terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
The Lt Governor emphasized that the terror ecosystem includes those engaged in hawala rackets, drug smuggling, and drug peddling, as the funds generated are utilized to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Additionally, intelligence reports suggest that terrorists are poised across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into J&K, as traditional mountain paths for infiltration remain accessible due to minimal snowfall this winter.
On February 11, two soldiers, including a captain, lost their lives in an IED explosion in the Akhnoor sector of the LoC in the Jammu district. Officials later confirmed that the IED responsible for the fatalities was planted by terrorists.
Last week, two soldiers sustained injuries from cross-border firing originating from the Pakistan side of the LoC in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of the Jammu division. Reports indicate that the Pakistan Army incurred 'heavy casualties' following retaliatory actions by the Indian Army.
Subsequently, the Indian Army released an official statement asserting that the ceasefire along the LoC remains intact and continues to be adhered to as per the mutual understanding between both armies.
Since the renewal of the ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, violations along the LoC have been infrequent.
