Chennai, March 8 (NationPress) Politicians in Tamil Nadu have reacted strongly after President Droupadi Murmu expressed her displeasure regarding the conduct of an official event hosted by the West Bengal government.

Leaders from both the AIADMK and AMMK on Sunday denounced what they termed a violation of protocol and a significant affront to the dignity of the highest constitutional office in the country.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami stated that any form of disrespect shown to the President is profoundly regrettable and intolerable.

In a social media post, Palaniswami voiced his concern over the President having to publicly express her discontent regarding the incident.

"It is truly disheartening that our Hon’ble President has to publicly convey her distress over such an occurrence," he remarked.

Highlighting the necessity of honoring constitutional institutions, the AIADMK leader pointed out that roles like that of the President represent the dignity and ethos of the Indian Republic.

"Constitutional offices are not just ceremonial figures; they encapsulate the dignity of our Republic," Palaniswami emphasized.

While not directly accusing the West Bengal government, he asserted that those in power must ensure that administrative actions maintain the utmost respect for the nation's constitutional authorities.

On the other hand, T. T. V. Dhinakaran, founder of AMMK, also condemned the situation and demanded an apology from Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Dhinakaran characterized the incident as a "premeditated insult" to the President, claiming it was politically motivated.

He stressed that the President occupies a position above political affiliations and must always be treated with appropriate respect.

Moreover, he highlighted several serious breaches of established protocol during the President's visit.

Dhinakaran noted that the customary practice of welcoming the President by either the Chief Minister or a senior Minister upon her arrival was not adhered to.

Additionally, he claimed that the event's venue was altered at the last minute, which he argued contributed to the controversy and reflected poorly on the organizers.

Such actions, he contended, amounted to a lack of respect for the office of the President.

The comments from leaders in Tamil Nadu have intensified the ongoing political discourse surrounding the incident, with opposition figures calling for accountability and a commitment to adhering to established constitutional protocols during official engagements involving the President.
