Hyderabad, December 23 (NationPress) - The Telangana High Court has mandated the State government to make all Government Orders (GOs), circulars, rules, and notifications accessible on its official website.
The single-judge bench expressed grave concern over the lack of availability of numerous GOs on the official site.
Justice Surepalli Nanda emphasized that citizens possess an irrefutable right to access government policies and decisions that significantly affect public welfare.
The judge instructed officials to comply strictly with the guidelines outlined in GO 4 dated April 10, 2017, which requires thorough online publication of all official documents for public viewing.
Justice Nanda remarked that ensuring transparency in governance is a vital aspect of democracy, not merely an option.
This court ruling arose from a writ petition submitted by Errolla Srinivas, the former chairman of the Telangana SC/ST Commission.
The petitioner contended that the government has systematically neglected to post the GOs, thereby infringing upon citizens' right to information and fostering an environment conducive to corruption.
The petitioner's attorney presented data acquired via the Right to Information Act.
In response to an RTI inquiry from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao, the Information Technology Electronics and Communications Department disclosed that from the 19,064 GOs issued between December 7, 2023, and January 26, 2025, only 3,290 GOs are currently accessible to the public.
The RTI response revealed that a staggering 15,774 GOs remain unpublished.
In light of the High Court's order, Harish Rao criticized the government, claiming it serves as a wake-up call to the so-called people's government.
He urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on ‘X’ to go beyond merely labeling the administration as a “people's government,” insisting that transparency regarding the GOs is essential. “You must disclose what you are concealing behind these obscure government orders,” he asserted.
Harish Rao further stated that the Congress government's theatrics—coming into power under the pretense of providing governance for the people—has been unveiled through the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) initiated by senior BRS leader Errolla Srinivas, based on the RTI findings.
