Hyderabad, Oct 20 (NationPress) The Director General of Police (DGP) for Telangana, B. Shivadhar Reddy, announced on Monday that the police force is resolutely dedicated to upholding law and order throughout the state and will take stringent measures against criminals, irrespective of their level of violence.
The DGP's remarks were made following the incident involving Shaik Riyaz, who fatally stabbed a police constable just four days prior. Riyaz was shot by police while attempting to flee from a hospital in Nizamabad.
According to the police chief, the dangerous criminal seized a firearm from the officers present and attempted to shoot them. He was killed during the police response, as stated by the state's top police official.
The event unfolded on Monday at the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad, where Riyaz was receiving medical care.
Riyaz had previously murdered Constable Empalli Pramod Kumar, 42, after being apprehended in connection with a motorcycle theft on the night of October 17.
During the arrest, Pramod, along with his nephew, had taken Riyaz into custody. While Pramod was riding the motorcycle, his nephew was seated behind him, and Riyaz was placed between them.
Without warning, the 24-year-old assailant attacked Pramod with a knife. When his nephew intervened, he was also stabbed. Two accomplices on a motorcycle then aided Riyaz in escaping. Despite a sub-inspector's attempt to intervene, they assaulted him as well.
Pramod was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, while his nephew remains hospitalized.
On Monday, the DGP honored the fallen Constable Pramod Kumar.
He assured that the government and police force would support Praneetha, Pramod's wife, and their three young sons, who have lost their father.
The police chief declared that the department would provide one crore rupees in ex-gratia, along with the last paid salary until the retirement of the martyred constable. Additionally, one family member will receive a government job, and the family will be allotted a 300-square-yard house site, along with Rs. 16 lakhs from the Police Security Welfare Fund and Rs. 8 lakhs from the Police Welfare Fund.
"On behalf of the Telangana State Police Department, I extend my condolences to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty," stated the DGP.
Riyaz, who was evading capture after murdering the police constable, was arrested on Sunday. He was apprehended near Sarangapur under the jurisdiction of the Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station with the assistance of a local citizen, Asif.
The Nizamabad Police Commissioner confirmed that Riyaz was captured alive and refuted claims of an encounter.
He clarified that rumors circulating on social media about police firing at Riyaz were unfounded.
Following a tip-off, a police team arrived at Sarangapur, having learned that Riyaz was hiding there in a shed. Upon spotting the police, he attempted to flee, but Asif, who was nearby, attempted to apprehend him.
Riyaz lunged at Asif with a knife. The police managed to surround and capture him. Both Riyaz and Asif sustained injuries during the struggle and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Asif, who suffered serious injuries, was later moved to a hospital in Hyderabad.
