Hyderabad, Sep 26 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has appointed IPS officer Battula Shivadhar Reddy to serve as the new Director General of Police (DGP).
Shivadhar Reddy, currently holding the position of Director General of Police, Intelligence, received his appointment orders from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao issued an order transferring Shivadhar Reddy and assigning him the role of DGP (Coordination), along with full additional charge of DGP (Head of Police Force).
He takes over from Dr. Jithender, who is retiring upon reaching the age of superannuation.
An officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) from the 1994 batch, Shivadhar Reddy was a practicing lawyer prior to passing the Civil Services Examination and joining the IPS. Over his three-decade-long career, he has held numerous significant positions at both the district and state levels.
Born in Hyderabad, Shivadhar Reddy completed his education in the city, earning an LLB from Osmania University. After a brief period as an advocate, he cleared the Civil Services Examination in 1994 and was assigned to the Andhra Pradesh cadre, which later transitioned to Telangana after the state's bifurcation in 2014.
Initially, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in various sub-divisions of Visakhapatnam district. He later worked with the elite Greyhounds in Adilabad District.
Shivadhar Reddy has held the position of Superintendent of Police in Nalgonda, Srikakulam, Nellore, and Guntur. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in 2004 and as DCP for the South Zone in Hyderabad from 2007 to 2008. Additionally, he was the SP of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) and was deployed to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) for a peacekeeping mission.
He led the SIB as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and also took on roles as Additional Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Director of the ACB after being promoted to IG.
From 2012 to 2014, he served as the Commissioner of Police in Visakhapatnam.
In 2014, he became the inaugural Chief of the Intelligence Department in Telangana at the rank of Inspector General. Following his promotion to Additional DGP, he later worked in the Personnel Wing, Railways, and Road Safety.
In December 2023, the Congress Government reinstated Shivadhar Reddy as the Chief of Intelligence with the rank of Additional DGP. After his promotion in August 2024, he remained the Chief of Intelligence at the rank of DGP.
