Bhubaneswar, March 9 (NationPress) The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch has detained ten Bangladeshi illegal infiltrators, comprising three females and a juvenile, following a raid at Bhubaneswar Railway Station.

The STF issued a press release on Sunday stating that these Bangladeshi nationals lacked any legal documentation, including a Passport, Visa, or any valid travel documents for their stay or travel in India.

On Saturday, a team of STF officials executed a raid on the platform of Bhubaneswar Railway Station after receiving confidential information about the travel of these illegal immigrants into Odisha without valid documentation.

During interrogation, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals who illegally crossed the border via an agent near the Dhubri border (Assam) and had come to Bhubaneswar intending to settle here. A personal search revealed seven mobile phones, some Bangladeshi currency, and Indian currency notes, which were confiscated by the STF.

The STF apprehended a total of ten individuals, including six males, three females, and one juvenile, during the raid, subsequently filing a case on Sunday.

“As these Bangladeshi nationals entered India without a passport, visa, or any travel documentation, they have suppressed their true identities and are thus liable under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act 1946.

A case has been registered under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act 1946, and all detained individuals have been arrested and placed in judicial custody,” STF sources added.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated in 2024 that a total of 3,740 Bangladeshi infiltrators were illegally residing in the state as of 2021.

He also mentioned that of these infiltrators, 1,649 are in Kendrapara district, followed by 1,112 in Jagatsinghpur, 655 in Malkangiri, 199 in Bhadrak, 106 in Nabarangpur, 17 in Bhubaneswar in Khurda district, and two in Bargarh district.

CM Majhi also noted that directives have been issued to establish committees consisting of tehsil, block, and police station officers to identify infiltrators residing in various locations across the state.
