Kolkata, Sep 13 (NationPress) The city of Kolkata will be enveloped in a comprehensive security perimeter and experience significant traffic changes from Sunday evening until the afternoon of September 15 due to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), staying true to his vision of a robust, secure, and self-sufficient India, PM Modi will officially open and speak at the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference-2025 in Kolkata.

This conference serves as the highest-level discussion platform for the Armed Forces, gathering the nation’s leading civilian and military figures to share insights and lay the foundation for the future enhancement of India's military readiness.

Scheduled every two years, the 16th Combined Commanders' Conference will take place in Kolkata from September 15-17, 2025. The theme for this year's event is 'Year of Reforms - Transforming for the Future'.

The conference aims to address reforms, transformation, and operational readiness, highlighting the Armed Forces' focus on institutional changes, greater integration, and technological advancements while maintaining multi-domain operational capability. Discussions will emphasize fortifying the Armed Forces to ensure they remain agile, decisive, and prepared for future challenges in a swiftly changing geo-strategic landscape.

Several high-profile officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and senior officials from various Ministries, will participate in the discussions along with officers from the three Services and the Integrated Defence Staff.

The government indicates that the Prime Minister will land at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday. He will depart the airport at 5:40 p.m. and arrive at Raj Bhavan in central Kolkata by 6:10 p.m., where he will spend the night.

On Monday, PM Modi will visit Vijay Durg at Fort William (the Indian Army's Eastern Command Headquarters) at 9:30 a.m. for the conference, which is expected to conclude by 1 p.m. The Prime Minister will then head to Kolkata airport at 1:40 p.m. before departing for Bihar.

In light of PM Modi's visit, the Kolkata Traffic Police issued an advisory last night detailing traffic restrictions in the city for Sunday and Monday.

The advisory specifies that all types of goods vehicles will face restrictions on major roads under Kolkata Police jurisdiction from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and again from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, alongside standard restrictions on those dates.

Restricted roads include VIP Road, Ultadanga New Flyover, EM Bypass, Maa Flyover, AJC Bose Flyover, AJC Bose Road, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Khidderpore Road, J&N Island, Red Road, R R Avenue, and Raj Bhavan South Gate.

The advisory states, 'Movement and parking of all types of vehicles and carts, including tram cars, will be managed or restricted on the roads and approaches during the specified times, as deemed necessary.'

Heavy goods vehicles will face additional limitations around Raj Bhavan from 6 a.m. on September 14 to 10 p.m. on September 15.

The route from Government Place East and Esplanade Row East Crossing to Old Court House Street and BBD Bag South Crossing will be entirely closed from 10 p.m. on September 14 until 6 a.m. on September 15.

Traffic police will also have the authority to reroute vehicles from primary and secondary roads based on the Prime Minister's itinerary, as further outlined in the advisory.
