Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to speak at a significant political gathering today at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, marking the conclusion of the BJP's statewide Parivartan Yatra in anticipation of the forthcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections.
The BJP’s West Bengal unit is optimistic about achieving a historic turnout, with supporters journeying from various parts of the state to attend the Prime Minister's speech. Preparations at the event location are underway, featuring the construction of multiple stages.
In response to the expected influx of attendees, authorities have mobilized thousands of police officers and instituted traffic restrictions across several areas of the city for effective crowd management.
During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the groundwork for infrastructure and connectivity projects totaling approximately Rs 18,680 crore, which includes national highway enhancements valued at around Rs 16,990 crore covering over 420 kilometers. These projects are designed to bolster road safety, alleviate congestion, minimize travel times, and enhance regional connectivity and economic development in eastern India.
The flagship initiative is the 231-km Kharagpur–Morgram Economic Corridor, which will be upgraded to a four-lane highway, significantly decreasing the distance between Kharagpur and Siliguri by about 120 km and reducing travel time by approximately eight hours.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Dubrajpur Bypass on NH-14 and new bridges over the Kangshabati and Silabati rivers to enhance highway connectivity further.
BJP West Bengal vice-president Raju Banerjee reported that organizational preparations for the rally are advancing swiftly, though he refrained from disclosing the precise number of stages being constructed at the site due to security measures.
Before heading to Kolkata for the rally and other engagements in West Bengal, PM Modi is scheduled to participate in events in Silchar, Assam.
