Tragedy Strikes as Six-Storey Structure Crumbles in Punjab

Chandigarh, Dec 21 (NationPress) A six-storey structure has crumbled in the Mohali district of Punjab on Saturday evening, resulting in five individuals being trapped under the debris, as reported by officials.
Rescue efforts are currently in progress, with one person successfully rescued and transported to the hospital.
“The operation is ongoing. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and fire teams are present at the site. An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of this incident,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Pareek during a media briefing.
Authorities believe that approximately five people may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
A team from the NDRF has arrived at the scene, and the fire brigade is also actively involved in the rescue efforts.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, Anandpur Sahib MP Malwinder Singh Kang, and Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh have reached the location to supervise the rescue operations.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his condolences in a post on X, stating, “We have received unfortunate news that a multi-storey building near Sohana in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) has collapsed. The entire administration and rescue teams have been deployed on-site. I am in constant communication with the administration.”
“We hope for no loss of life, and we will take action against those responsible. I urge the public to support the administration,” he added.
A local resident reported hearing a loud noise at the time of the collapse. Initial assessments indicate that the building fell after excavation work was carried out in a nearby area.
Media sources indicate that a gym was operating on all three floors of the collapsed building, with estimates suggesting that between five to eight people might be trapped under the debris.
Teams from the NDRF, police, and district administration are actively conducting rescue and relief operations at the accident site. Medical teams have also been placed on standby.
