Tragic Incident in Purnea: Five Lives Lost in Road Rage

Purnea, Dec 23 (NationPress) Tragically, five individuals were confirmed dead while six others suffered injuries after a high-speed pick-up truck collided with them in Bihar's Purnea district.

The collision occurred on Sunday night, involving a speeding pick-up vehicle operated by Sonu Kumar, which crashed into a group of 11 people gathered near the Panchayat Bhawan in Dhakwa village, located in Purnea district. The incident began when the vehicle struck a child, sparking a confrontation between Sonu and the local villagers.

Following the argument, Sonu reportedly drove his vehicle in a state of intoxication and rage, intentionally running over the group.

The injured victims were quickly transported to a hospital, but unfortunately, five individuals succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The deceased have been identified as Jyotish Thakur, 50, Sanyukta Devi, 45, Amardeep, 6, Akhilesh, 11, and Manisha, 11.

Among the injured are Rajesh Muni, Abhinandan Muni, Shalu Kumar, Poonam Devi, Twinkle Kumari, and Nikki Devi, who have sustained serious injuries, with two individuals currently in critical condition at Purnea Medical College Hospital.

Initially, the injured were taken to Dhamdaha Sub-divisional Hospital before being referred to Purnea Medical College Hospital due to their severe conditions. A formal complaint has been lodged against Sonu Kumar by the villagers, leading to a police investigation. Authorities are actively pursuing Sonu, who has fled the scene.

Initial investigations indicate that Sonu was under the influence of alcohol and driving recklessly at the time of the accident. Local residents have accused him of deliberately targeting the group following the dispute.

The police have dispatched the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem examinations on Monday morning.

Ranjan Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Dhamdaha Police Station, stated, 'Based on the written complaint from local residents, we have filed a First Information Report (FIR) under the applicable sections for rash and negligent driving against Sonu Kumar. We are conducting ongoing raids to apprehend him as he has fled the village. Reports suggest that he committed this grave act over a minor argument and was inebriated at the time.'
