Transfer of BJP MLC Ravi's Case to Bengaluru's Special Court Following Remarks on Female Minister
Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 20 (NationPress) A district court in Karnataka issued an order on Friday directing law enforcement to bring BJP MLC, C.T. Ravi, to the Special Court for MLAs/MPs in Bengaluru.
The judge of the Belagavi court, Sparsha M D’souza, made this ruling, thereby transferring the case to the Special Court.
C.T. Ravi faces allegations of using derogatory language towards the Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Laxmi Hebbalkar, during a session in the Legislative Council on Thursday.
On Friday morning, C.T. Ravi was presented before the court.
As per the court's directive, C.T. Ravi is being transported to Bengaluru via a transit warrant from Belagavi.
Several BJP leaders, including state President B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka, and other BJP MLAs, are accompanying the police convoy.
The prosecution requested the court to ensure that the accused is produced before the Special Court for MLAs/MPs.
The court agreed to this request and inquired about the estimated time required for the journey to Bengaluru.
The police indicated that the travel time would be approximately 12 hours by road or 2 hours by air.
The court also instructed that upon reaching Bengaluru, barring travel time, C.T. Ravi should be presented before the judge of the Special Court without delay.
Furthermore, the court mandated that the police facilitate a smooth transit without any disturbances.
Upon exiting the court, C.T. Ravi remarked, “Our time will also come. They kept me in custody overnight as if we were under a dictatorship. I was detained without any notification. This oppression will not endure. It must cease. Everything will come to a halt. The police have been used to torment me, but we too will have our opportunity.”
In the meantime, C.T. Ravi's attorney has filed a bail petition with the Special Court as well as in the sessions court.
Attorney Srinivas Rao has submitted the bail request.
Previously, C.T. Ravi informed the court that he had been assaulted and tortured by police during custody. He claimed that the police transported him across three districts for ten hours throughout the night.
“The officers took me to remote locations and sugarcane fields,” he stated.
Ravi further recounted in court that he was assaulted at the Khanapur police station, sustaining injuries to his head and bleeding.
When questioned about his ability to identify the police personnel involved, Ravi expressed his inability to do so.
