Key Takeaways
Gandhinagar, Feb 17 (NationPress) The state government announced in the Assembly on Tuesday that two significant infrastructure initiatives in Gujarat are poised to enhance connectivity and facilitate transportation for more than 1.74 lakh citizens.
The ongoing expansion of an 8.61-kilometre main road, which links 10 villages across Surat and Tapi districts, is already benefiting around 33,000 residents.
This project, costing Rs 9.30 crore, connects Miyapur, Shekhpur, Mudat, Vadiya, Andhatri, and Dungri in Mahuva taluka of Surat district with Mordevi, Kanajod, Valod, and Kumbhiya in Valod taluka of Tapi district.
Minister Rushikesh Patel, speaking for the Roads and Buildings Department, informed the Assembly that the current 3.75-metre-wide road has been widened to 5.50 metres.
He noted that the project adheres to technical standards set by the Indian Road Congress (IRC), specifically the IRC-64 code, considering the terrain and traffic data captured in Passenger Car Units (PCU).
“By implementing these standards, we are ensuring enhanced safety and convenience for our citizens during travel,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, in Bansakantha district, the Palanpur-Laxmipura railway overbridge, which spans 1,212.19 metres, is anticipated to serve over 1.41 lakh citizens of Palanpur city upon its completion.
The state government has allocated Rs 46 crore for this modern overbridge, which is part of an extensive strategy to upgrade urban connectivity.
Land acquisition for the project is complete, and formal possession is currently in progress, with the remaining steps expected to finalize soon.
Minister Patel emphasized the practical advantages of the railway overbridge, stating it will decrease travel time and fuel usage while facilitating smoother daily commutes.
“This overbridge will greatly enhance traffic flow in Palanpur and offer improved mobility for local residents,” he added.
Both initiatives reflect the state government’s broader mission under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to establish a road network in Gujarat that aligns with global benchmarks.
The projects aim to bolster rural and urban connectivity, boost safety, and enhance overall transport efficiency for residents throughout the state.
