New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, alongside Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, expressed their profound sorrow on the passing of Mohsina Kidwai, a former Union Minister and Member of Parliament. They highlighted that her grace, simplicity, and distinguished political career served as a beacon of inspiration for countless women nationwide.

Rahul Gandhi shared his thoughts on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Mohsina Kidwai Ji, a loyal leader of the Congress party whose life was a testament to public service. Her elegance, humility, and impressive political achievements have motivated generations of women throughout the nation. During this difficult time, I extend my heartfelt condolences to her grieving family and supporters.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also took to ‘X’ to express his sadness, saying, “I am heartbroken by the loss of Smt. Mohsina Kidwai ji, a pillar of the Congress party and former Union Minister who dedicated more than sixty years to her nation’s service. A long-serving Member of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and a significant figure on the Congress Working Committee for many years, she was a guiding light for the party during its most challenging times.”

He added that her passing represents a major loss for both the Congress party and the nation. “This loss is immense for the Congress party and for the country. My sincere condolences to her family, friends, and the many who admired her. May her soul find eternal peace,” he remarked.

Born on January 1, 1932, in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, Mohsina Kidwai began her public life early, starting in state politics before ascending to national prominence. She was elected multiple times to the Lok Sabha, representing the Meerut constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Subsequently, she served as a Rajya Sabha member from Chhattisgarh from 2004 to 2016, where she made notable contributions to legislative discussions and national policymaking.

A highly respected leader within the Indian National Congress, Kidwai was a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s premier decision-making body. Additionally, she held the role of General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), where she significantly influenced strategy, organization, and the mentorship of younger leaders.

Her memoir, 'My Life in Indian Politics', encapsulates her experiences and insights gathered over decades of dedicated service. Mohsina Kidwai was married to Khalil R. Kidwai and is survived by three daughters.
