Chennai, Jan 18 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a new summons to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay, instructing him to appear again in New Delhi on Monday as part of its inquiry into the Karur stampede.

This investigation pertains to a political rally that took place in Karur on September 27, 2025, during which Vijay was actively campaigning for TVK.

The event attracted a large crowd, resulting in a tragic stampede that led to the loss of 41 lives.

The incident caused widespread shock throughout Tamil Nadu and sparked considerable public outrage, necessitating a thorough investigation.

The inquiry is being led by the CBI and is overseen by a committee chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ajay Rastogi.

Recently, the CBI has escalated its examination of the events surrounding this tragedy.

As part of the investigation, the agency has already interrogated several senior figures within TVK. This includes Bussi Anand, the party's general secretary, Adhav Arjuna, general secretary of the Election Management Division, Nirmal Kumar, joint general secretary, and Mathiyazhagan, the Karur district secretary.

Last month, both Bussi Anand and Adhav Arjuna appeared in person at the CBI's Delhi office to provide comprehensive explanations. Based on the information collected and the evidence acquired thus far, the CBI has decided to question Vijay directly about his role and responsibilities linked to the Karur event.

In line with this, he was previously summoned to the CBI office in Delhi at 11 a.m. on January 12. Vijay complied and underwent extensive questioning.

During this inquiry, CBI officials reportedly posed several critical questions, such as who organized the Karur event, whether Vijay was aware of the arrangements beforehand, the reasons for his late arrival, and if any actions were taken to manage the large crowd.

Investigators also inquired about when he became aware of the crowd's density, whether local authorities alerted him ahead of time, and what provisions had been made for drinking water, security, and safe ingress and egress routes.

Sources indicate that Vijay addressed all inquiries and provided thorough explanations. After the initial round of questioning, he returned to Chennai.

Following the Pongal festival, the CBI has summoned him again for the next phase of questioning. Reports suggest that Vijay is expected to travel to Delhi this evening for his second appearance before the investigating agency, as the CBI continues to unravel the accountability and responsibility surrounding the Karur tragedy.
