Two Women Constables Injured at CRPF Training Facility in Muzaffarpur, Bihar

Patna, Jan 9 (NationPress) Two female constables from Gopalganj district police incurred gunshot wounds during a training exercise at the Jhapaha CRPF training facility in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar on Wednesday, according to officials.

Both officers have been admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for treatment and are said to be out of danger.

The injuries were sustained in the Ahiyapur police station area during a firing practice session.

Initial investigations indicate that the injuries were the result of a misfire, but the precise details are still under scrutiny.

The constables suffered injuries to their legs during the occurrence.

The injured officers are affiliated with the Gopalganj police team and had arrived in Muzaffarpur just four days prior.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the misfire.

Legal actions will be taken following the completion of the investigation.

In the wake of the incident, Muzaffarpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO-2), Vinita Sinha, visited the training facility and carried out a preliminary inquiry.

She stated: "Both injured constables are stable and will be interrogated about the incident. Legal measures will follow based on the investigation's outcomes."

Training and firing exercises at the BMP-6 training facility in Malighat, Muzaffarpur, had been halted previously after local residents were injured in an earlier session.

Since then, training sessions have been relocated to the Jhapaha CRPF Training Facility.

This incident raises alarms regarding safety protocols in place during training exercises at shooting ranges.

Future actions may involve reassessing procedures to avert such incidents.

While such accidents are not common in Bihar, misfires and stray projectiles pose considerable risks to both trainees and nearby civilians.

This incident highlights the inherent dangers and the necessity for enhanced safety measures.

Previously, during artillery training at the Guler Bind firing range in the Gaya district, a cannon bomb shell accidentally landed in a civilian area.

Another occurrence transpired on March 23, 2023, when a live mortar shell was discovered in Divnia village, within the jurisdiction of the Dhangai police station.
