New Delhi, Nov 6 (NationPress) Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, is set to officially open the 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Exhibition 2025 in Gurugram on November 7, as stated by the ministry on Thursday.
This three-day conference, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), revolves around the theme "Urban Development and Mobility Nexus", with a focus on sustainable and integrated urban transportation solutions.
Prior to the main event, a Curtain Raiser was conducted in Gurugram on Thursday, led by Jaideep, Officer on Special Duty (Urban Transport), in attendance with Dr. Chander Shekhar Khare, Managing Director of Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd. (GMRL), alongside senior officials and key stakeholders.
The UMI Conference and Exhibition 2025, facilitated by the Institute of Urban Transport (India) with assistance from the Haryana government and GMRL, will include eight technical sessions, eight roundtables, and two plenary sessions. This event aims to gather national and international experts to discuss strategies for enhancing the efficiency, inclusivity, and sustainability of urban transport systems.
Jaideep highlighted during the curtain raiser that the conference's goal is to foster integrated planning and sustainable mobility solutions in accordance with the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) 2006, which stresses the need for developing institutional capacities at both state and city levels to tackle the increasing challenges of urban transport and guarantee equitable mobility for all.
Khare emphasized that the conference will aim to pinpoint practical and scalable solutions to enhance urban mobility, minimize travel time, and make daily commuting more accessible and efficient for the public.
