Vavol Family Benefits from the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

Gandhinagar, Dec 10 (NationPress) In a notable instance of the Union government's dedication to empowering citizens through sustainable energy initiatives, a family residing in Vavol village, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is enjoying dramatic improvements in their everyday life, all thanks to the visionary PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
This program, introduced by the Narendra Modi administration, focuses on supplying solar-powered electricity to households, thereby lowering electricity expenses while fostering clean energy.
Falguni Ben, a local resident of Vavol, stands out as one of the many individuals benefiting from this initiative. Her residence, equipped with various electronic devices, now operates entirely on solar energy.
With the solar panels installed on her rooftop under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, two air conditioners, a refrigerator, a television, a computer, and even their electric vehicle (EV) are all powered by solar energy.
Previously, Falguni’s family grappled with exorbitant electricity bills, especially during the summer, when charges would surge to around Rs 6,000. However, following the installation of solar panels, their electricity bill has not only vanished but has been replaced with a credit.
"What once were hefty electricity bills now transforms into money credited into our account by the electricity department," Falguni explained, adding, "This has truly changed the game for us."
The total expenditure for the solar panel installation was Rs 86,000, but the subsidy provided under this scheme significantly alleviated the financial load.
Falguni highlighted the beneficial effects of this program, which has already revolutionized her family's energy consumption.
"Our home is now entirely powered by solar energy. Everything, including our ACs, televisions, laptops, and computers, runs smoothly without any issues," she detailed.
"Even our EV charges effortlessly from the solar energy."
The advantages extend beyond her own family; according to Falguni, numerous individuals in her neighborhood have also capitalized on the scheme, installing solar panels and enjoying the perks of reduced electricity costs.
"Everyone should take advantage of this scheme and install solar panels in their homes," she encouraged.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has proven to be a blessing for countless households, decreasing their reliance on the grid, minimizing monthly electricity expenses, and contributing to a more sustainable future.
The initiative aims to enhance rooftop solar capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricity. With a total budget of Rs 75,021 crore, the program is set to continue until FY 2026-27.
The scheme provides considerable subsidies to make solar energy more attainable. Households can avail a 60 percent subsidy on solar units up to 2kW capacity and 40 percent for systems ranging from 2 to 3kW, with the maximum subsidy capped at 3kW.
At the current benchmark prices, the subsidy could reach Rs 30,000 for a 1kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2kW system, and Rs 78,000 for a 3kW system or greater.
This initiative is projected to benefit over one crore households across India, saving the government an estimated Rs 75,000 crore yearly in electricity expenses.
