Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Saharanpur, April 3 (NationPress) In a statement concerning Union Minister Kiren Rijiju's comments about the Women's Reservation Bill, Congress MP Imran Masood announced that a special session of Parliament is set for April 16, where this important legislation will be thoroughly discussed.
During an interview with IANS, Masood emphasized that the foundation for women’s representation was established under Sonia Gandhi's leadership, and noted that the Bill had previously passed.
"The Bill has not been completely disregarded; it simply awaits implementation. There are some legal challenges, and the central government is revisiting it to resolve those issues," he clarified.
He further confirmed that the upcoming session on April 16 will focus solely on the Women's Reservation Bill, with no other topics on the agenda.
In response to US President Donald Trump's recent remarks regarding Iran, Masood expressed skepticism about their impact, stating, "Whenever the US issues threats, Iran responds appropriately. Each time Trump declares that Iran will face destruction, Iran retaliates in a significant manner."
Regarding Chief Justice Surya Kant's remarks about West Bengal, the Congress leader voiced concerns over the alleged removal of voters' names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, calling it a serious threat to democratic principles and an undermining of the electoral process.
Masood urged the Chief Justice to take note of this issue seriously.
He also commented on the recent explosion outside the BJP office in Chandigarh, questioning the accountability of the Union Home Ministry regarding law and order in the Union Territory.
"If law and order is declining in Chandigarh, the Centre needs to clarify who is accountable," stated the Congress MP.
Responding to remarks made by AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Masood remarked that there was nothing novel in Owaisi's statements, emphasizing that similar issues have been consistently raised by his party.
