Madhya Pradesh CM Announces Special Assembly Session on Women's Reservation Bill
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 19 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared on Sunday that a special one-day assembly session will be organized shortly to deliberate on the women’s reservation topic.
During a press conference held at the BJP state headquarters in Bhopal, he emphasized the necessity of bringing this matter before the public to ensure everyone recognizes the significance of women’s empowerment.
A protest rally (Akrosh Rally) is set to take place on Monday in Bhopal. The Chief Minister asserted that the BJP is committed to defending the rights of its “sisters” and will reveal the identities of those who have compromised the cause of Nari Shakti (women’s power).
He pointed out that following the unsuccessful passing of the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, along with the associated Delimitation Bill in the Lok Sabha last week, the BJP has initiated a statewide protest campaign against the Congress and other opposition factions.
Moreover, he noted that in the forthcoming days, various demonstrations, rallies, foot marches, and public meetings will be organized throughout all districts and divisions of the state.
Resolutions advocating for women’s reservation will also be adopted at the panchayat and urban local body levels.
CM Yadav referred to the events in Parliament as deeply regrettable and a condemnation of democratic principles.
He expressed that a historic opportunity to enhance women’s status was compromised by the opposition’s negative stance. This issue transcends politics; it is a matter of women's dignity and rights, he asserted.
The Chief Minister accused the opposition of exploiting this sensitive topic for political advantage, stating that the nation will remember this affront to Nari Shakti. He recalled that when the Women’s Reservation Bill was initially presented in 2023, it garnered support from all political entities. However, when it came time to advance it through necessary amendments and related legislation, the opposition withdrew their support, which he characterized as sheer opportunism.
The party contends that a grave injustice has been inflicted upon women’s rights and is determined to bring this issue to the forefront across Madhya Pradesh.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government is unwavering in its commitment to women’s empowerment and will persist in its efforts to guarantee that the benefits of 33 percent reservation reach women as swiftly as possible.
